Also this week I spent about 10 hours trying out Glossika. Beforehand, when listening to normal speed speech (e.g. TV), I was mainly catching words, and rarely recognising phrases and sentences. I wondered if sentence training with Glossika would help. It did. Perhaps for the next listening or speaking challenge, I will use Glossika again.

20 mins Miss Panda children's stories (while reading along - some have English too), 20 mins 'Zhou Haisheng' (while reading along - no English or pinyin), 20 mins 'Haokan shi bu goude' (just listening, not reading). All are at a level that I can understand without difficulty - I have decided to focus on this kind of material for a week and see how it goes.

10 mins watching Slow Chinese, 15 mins watching Very Hungry Caterpillar x 3, 60 mins TV

10 mins Slow Chinese, 90 mins TV, 30 mins listening to a few things that I had found difficult during a listening challenge last year (haokan shi bu goude, some childrens stories on YouTube) and now feel effortless - some progress!

20 mins Slow Chinese, 2 hours TV. I learnt a lot more from 20 mins of Slow Chinese (which is the right level for me) than from 2 hours of TV (where I can catch quite a few words but only the occasional sentence). Not quite sure about the value of watching TV at this stage - maybe just getting used to the sounds and speed - and picking up how words are used in everyday conversations.
