Wow, I'm enjoying this, but now that I'm reading "at my level" (sort of) it almost seems harder. It's definitely challenging my recall of both characters and sentence structure. I think I need to use my flashcards more frequently! But reading is really making me step up my game. P.S. Still reading HSK 1 Storybook.

I got some of the books by B.Y. Leong and started reading the "HSK 1 Storybook" volume 1. Very beginner, beginning learner short stories. Definitely more my speed. Reading faster really helps get a better feel for the flow of Chinese sentences. I'll try to get more time tomorrow, but it's my wedding anniversary today.

Didn't have much time today. But the reading was interesting. I also spent some time with a new "how to learn" book.

Three articles in The Chairman's Bai in Pleco. Some of it was a workout.

One of today's Chairman's Bao was about a 90 year marriage. There were some useful new words for me because our wedding anniversary is next weekend. I even got through a couple sentences without the dictionary! LOL

I managed 3 articles in The Chairman's Bao in Pleco today. I realize that I'm doing "intensive" reading, rather than "extensive" reading, but I'm not far enough advanced for the latter yet. It's fascinating to find colloqial expressions or varying grammar that don't translate word-for-word to English, yet I may recognize them in future anyway if heard again.

Just finished now! The second article today (The Chairman's Bao) had more words I was familiar with, and was a bit repetitive, so I was able to read faster without looking up as many words. The first article was more interesting; about the birth of a baby panda (熊猫) . I started adding useful new words to a flashcard deck (zoo, panda, born etc). I was a bit busy this morning, then didn't get to this exercise until very late. I'm going to keep trying to aim for earlier in the day, so I can use new terms during the day if possible, practice writing the characters, then review by evening.

I read 2 more articles in The Chairman's Bao within the Pleco app. I'm enjoying guessing the meaning of compound characters in context in my first read-through. But I think I will try listening to the entire article being read aloud before I look up everything at the end.

I am starting by reading a selection on Pleco of Level 1 articles from The Chairman's Bao. I haven't actually completely learned HSK1 yet, but one has to start somewhere, right? LOL. I also have some of the Mandarin Companion Audible/ebooks, so I will hopefully use those too. Since I am such a casual beginner level, these two weren't easy-peasy, but it wasn't a nightmare either.
So today, multiple times I read silently, then listened to Pleco read aloud: 新生开学住进洗手间 And 中国有钱人哪里最多?They were quite interesting, and I didn't realize the articles would be quite so short. It's a great look into news and culture in China and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I felt it recalled various words to my mind because they were in context. I have various appointments and events coming up this month and almost didn't join in because I'm uncertain of reaching any sort of goal. But this reading challenge is a good habit to develop, and I'm glad I took the plunge.
