passive listening. But i did learn a few Taiwanese Mandarin words!

30 minutes of somewhat active listening (tried to interpret a little to my mom) and 20 minutes of passive listening.

playing escape game on wordswing with in listening only mode. I did have to listen several times pretty often because there were words I didn't know and I just didn't catch it all on the first time.

driving and listening to podcast - I think it's called learning Taiwanese Mandarin. I could actually understand it pretty well. It wasn't super fast, and there were quite a few words I knew.
Side note: it seemed like she always said "zhei4" for "zhe4" (this).

listening to things as i organized my youtube library into playlists of different levels of Chinese

mostly going through my audio library/finding new resources (while listening to them of course)

LCTS episode - listened to the story several times, and after a few times looked at their suggested vocabulary on the spotify description - which really helped. After I could understand it, and then I could understand the episode where they explained the story too. It was episode 1.3.20 I think - about a frog in a well.

30 this morning transcribing a mandarin corner video and 15 this afternoon listening to a LCTS podcast about a song, and then listening to the song. I could understand the idea of the song, but the video had so many different accents that I couldn't follow very well at all. And the English subtitles were distracting :)

Passive listening - China's Mama's Boy by Mandarin Corner. I might return to this at some point later in the challenge.

some background listening to a podcast episode from learning chinese through stories. I did actually pick out a few words from it to look up though, and they helped me understand it better.

transcribed a video by Mandarin Corner (one I'd listened to a while back). I had to get used to transcribing again - it kind of takes getting into the groove. It definitely helped that I knew a few of the key words from when I listened to it the first time.

Focused on a different Harry Potter video - it was a guy telling the story over scenes from the movie - so no real dialogue. I probably worked too much on his introduction, writing down words and looking them up. It was also kind of strange how I could get the general idea even though there were lots of fancy phrases (that he went over at the end - I didn't listen to that, it wasn't useful). Probably because I already knew the story. But I also understood the idea of what he said at the beginning in the intro too.
I also did some passive listening.

listened to several clips from Harry Potter in Chinese. Did each a few times. Then I focused on one and listened it more, wrote down words to look up, and used the Chinese subtitles. By the time I was done, I could understand a lot more than at the beginning.

watched 2 videos in Chinese by Shuoshuozhongwen on youtube. She speaks relatively slow, so I could understand some of what was said. The first was passive, second one more active, paying more attention. could understand more on the 2nd, maybe 75%
