Still reading Journey to the Center of the Earth - Mandarin Companion Graded Reader. I have the feeling my reading is very slow, anybody with the same experience?

Journey to the Center of the Earth - Mandarin Companion Graded Reader

Reading Mandarin Companion although it is going really slowly :-(

Finished my first Mandarin Graded Reader book as part of the challenge :-) Very proud although it was the lowest level. Started my next which is level two and contains new words for me. My tactics is to review a chunk of vocabulary prior to reading the part of the book that contains it so to avoid switching between the text and vocabulary list. The other option I might try is to print the vocabulary list.

Mandarin Graded Reader - following recommendations from Ole I started with the lowest level. There was no new vocabulary, the text was very easy however reading was still very tiring. I think the reason is that I rarely read outside the class and character recognition is not automatic for me.

I think that's actually a good thing if you take advantage of it for grasping everything in detail. I sometimes get overconfident and go too fast through a text and then crash into something I don't understand and have to return to previous parts many times. So somedays I practice reading slow and even mark or highlight the syntactic structures as to make the flow better.
