This article is an excellent start for anyone who wants to know more about the Mandarin spoken in Taiwan. In general, it's very similar to the Chinese spoken on the Mainland and most Taiwanese people speak Mandarin very well (often as their first language). There are difference in vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar, but not so many that it really causes problems with communication.
